ADRA Senegal
Serving the local population since 1986
ADRA Senegal is an efficient emergency response agency, but we devote most of our resources to fostering and sustaining long-term development. Though prepared for and experienced with natural disaster response, such as during and after the floods that regularly devastate families, our priorities are in basic education, primary health, food security, and economic development.

Capacity Statement Overview
In the region of Matam, there is a rural community called Ouro Sidy. The people of this community lacked access to basic needs, and their food was inadequate and devoid of essential nutrients. Then ADRA Senegal offered an alternative: a community vegetable garden with access to an irrigation network. Because of the irrigation opportunity, the people of Ouro Sidy have been able to plant and harvest off-season. Since then, 2,893 people have had an increase in both income and food security.

Country Overview
Recurring catastrophes in Senegal have led to chronic food insecurities, while high rates of illiteracy have contributed to poverty nationwide. Access to health care is limited, resulting in infant and maternal mortality, while low standards of sanitation contribute to the spread of disease in urban areas. Additionally, noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension continue to increase.
